The Proton eMas 7 has been one of the most anticipated EVs in Malaysia, and after months of real-world driving across the Klang Valley, Penang, and even a KL–JB highway run, we’re ready to give you our complete verdict. This isn’t a press-trip first-drive — this is what ownership actually feels like.

In this Proton eMas 7 review Malaysia edition, we cover everything from real-world range on Malaysian roads to DC fast-charging behaviour, cabin livability, and whether the price makes sense against Chinese and Korean rivals. Buckle up.

Proton eMas 7 Specs & Variants

The Proton eMas 7 is a midsize electric SUV built on the Geely SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform — the same underpinning as the Volvo EX30 and Zeekr 001. It comes in two variants for the Malaysian market, with prices starting from RM 149,800 for the Standard Range and RM 179,800 for the Long Range AWD (OTR without insurance, as of August 2026).

The SEA platform brings genuine engineering credibility — this isn’t a rebadge job with a Proton logo slapped on. Proton has localised tuning for Malaysian road conditions, including revised suspension damping and updated thermal management calibrated for our tropical heat.

Driving Impressions: How It Feels on Malaysian Roads

The eMas 7 drives confidently on Malaysian roads — and that’s the key word. It doesn’t feel like a budget EV trying to punch above its weight; the steering weight, throttle response, and ride comfort all feel well-sorted for local kondisi jalan.

In Standard Range guise, the single rear motor produces 218 hp — more than enough for spirited highway overtaking. Slot into Sport mode on the LDP and it pulls cleanly past Grab cars and highway cruisers without drama. The AWD Long Range variant, with 422 hp on tap, is a genuinely quick car — the 4.5-second 0–100 km/h figure is real and accessible.

The suspension calibration deserves a special mention. Proton’s engineers clearly spent time on Federal Highway potholes and Penang Bridge expansion joints — the ride absorbs imperfections well without floating like a barge. It’s firmer than a Proton X70 but more comfortable than a BYD Seal in Normal mode.

One-pedal driving via the adjustable regenerative braking is intuitive. We used Level 3 regen for most city driving — it’s strong enough to bring the car near-to-a-stop in heavy Pandan Indah traffic without touching the brake pedal.

Real-World Range: eMas 7 Range Malaysia Test Results

Real-world eMas 7 range in Malaysia sits at approximately 370–420 km for the Standard Range variant, and 490–540 km for the Long Range — tested across mixed urban and highway driving.
